Halloween night is a fun night for children. They get to go out with friends on a school night, dress up, and enjoy free candy! Plan a route ahead of time. Knocking on doors for candy may take you several streets away from home, which can mean your children get tired. Avoid long walks by mapping out a route before you leave. Stick to well-lit paths and ones that you are familiar with, especially as the evening gets darker.
Prep a safe costume. Your child should avoid wearing masks that make it hard for them to breathe. Instead, opt for safe face paint! Your child's costumes should also be short enough so that it doesn't pose a tripping hazard.
Provide a hearty meal. Before going trick-or-treating, give your child a healthy and satisfying supper. This means that your kid won't be tempted to indulge in sugary treats all night!
Drive with caution. If you're going to be driving from house to house, take extra care. Many children will be dressed in black costumes and you may be driving in the dark. Slow down, scan the road ahead for children crossing, and avoid distractions.
