Stay cool this season with these tips.
The summer days are upon us, and the temperatures are edging higher and higher. Although there's nothing quite like enjoying the sunshine on a summer's day, it's important to be mindful of the heat. In summer, it's all too easy to suffer from heat stroke or heat exhaustion when you don't take proper care of yourself. To help, we've rounded up some essential safety tips to beat the heat.
Drink plenty of water. This is the most important thing that you can do to beat heat exhaustion and heat stroke. If you need to, you can add fresh mint, cucumber slices, or fruit to water for flavor to get drinking more. Always have a bottle of water nearby so that you can keep sipping.
Add summer fruits and veggies to your diet. Summer is the best way to treat yourself with interesting veggies and fruits. Make sure that you have a wide variety of fruits and vegetables that are water-rich to help keep you hydrated and cool, such as cucumber, watermelon, bell peppers, tomatoes, and kiwis.
Time it right. If possible, avoid going outside during the heat of the day. If you have to be out in the sun, wear a hat or use an umbrella to block out the sun.
Exercise comfortably. Ideally, get a gym membership and avoid exercising in the heat of the sun. If that isn't possible, opt for swimming in a community pool or playing sport indoors that can help you exercise without being in the heat.
Know the signs. Hopefully it never comes to this, but know the signs of heat stroke: throbbing headache, dizziness, muscle cramps, nausea, disorientation, lack of sweating. If you think you or another person has heat stroke, seek medical attention and cool down ASAP.We hope that these tips help you keep cool throughout summer.
