We all know how important fresh fruit and vegetables are for our health. Loaded with nutrition, vitamins, and minerals, some people include fruit and veggies in every meal of their day. Others, however, struggle to get down a single serving ' and we're not just talking about kids. Since July is National Fresh Fruit and Vegetables Month, take a look at our easy ways to incorporate them into your daily diet.
National Fresh Fruit and Vegetables Month Serve it up in a smoothie ' Whether you enjoy smoothies for breakfast, a snack, or even dessert, they're a great way to sneak in those daily servings of fruits and vegetables. Try whirring up raw veggies, such as kale, spinach, avocado, carrot, and cucumber for a healthy yet delicious drink. To sweeten it up, throw in some fresh or frozen fruit such as a banana or a handful of blueberries.
Make a healthy swapWhen you're making sauce, burgers, or lasagne, swap out the beef for finely chopped mushrooms. The meaty texture of mushrooms is similar to the ground beef, and they absorb the rich flavors of the sauce.
Blend them into a cheese sauceBelieve it or not, but you can create a €˜cheese' sauce from nothing but plants. Boil then blend potatoes, carrots, and onions, adding in nutritional yeast for a nutty and cheesy flavor. Pour over pasta for a delicious and heart-friendly mac and €˜cheese'.
