If you need to brighten up your home, we've got just the right tips!
While you may not realize it, if you've been feeling tired or stressed, look at your home, and its sources of natural light. Humans often act and feel better in a home that has plenty of natural light, as well as light inspired décor. If your home is quite a cave, you may need to bring in lighter finishes to play off of the darker ones.Check out the following tips to turn your dark and dingy home into a light and bright abode!
Walk through your home and assess the dark areas. If you've been living in your home for a while, you're likely used to its dark areas. Closest, living and family rooms that don't bring in enough natural light, or possibly the current paint color scheme and dark furniture could be making your interiors feel like a black hole. Before you start painting left, right, and center, assess what needs to change in your home.
Mix and match rich color neutrals and white in your décor. If your home needs neutrals for warmth, look to colors such as espresso brown, camel tan, and mushroom gray. The brown, white, and tan families look great when placed next to dark wood floors and doors.
Add recessed lighting fixtures. Adding recessed lighting can brighten up the ceiling without being obtrusive to the eye. Consider installing a dimmer switch to have versatile lighting control.
Hang a well-placed mirror. Hang a large mirror to reflect light and the beautiful view. You'll be surprised at how much light a strategically placed mirror can bring into the room.
Replace solid interior doors with glass doors. Glass doors provide instant light by creating a seamless flow of natural and artificial light. Avoid shutting rooms off by installing a solid door, so opt for glass instead.
Bring natural light indoors. You can't quite replace the effect of adding windows to a room. Adding windows to kitchens and living rooms are obvious places to add windows, but stairwells and landings are also great places to consider as they're often dark spots. Now that you've learned how to lighten and brighten up your home, it's time to protect it!
